Service

With Indian Americans now representing one out of every ten U.S. medical students and with MSR as the fastest growing section of AAPI, it is clear that second-generation Indian physicians are in a strong position to affect change in both the medical profession and the Indian Community.
Each year members of AAPI MS/R/F across the country dedicate countless hours to various charitable endeavors. While each of these projects are important in their own right, every year a project is chosen in which AAPI can have far reaching effects across the country.
Service Opportunities
Bone Marrow
National Marrow Donor Program
Has created a national education and recruitment initiative called Asian and Pacific Islander Donors Can Save Lives. However, although more Asian and Pacific Islander patients are finding donors for their transplants, they are still less likely than Caucasians to identify a matched donor. This is because the most likely match will come from a person's family or a nonfamily member of the same racial or ethnic background. More Asian and Pacific Islander donors are still needed , so others can have a chance of finding a matched donor.

Hinduja Service Project
Represents the collaboration between AAPI and Hinduja National Hospital in India. There are five proposed areas of collaboration with HNH designed to educate Indian doctors in modern technology, create joint research projects on diseases that affect the Indian population, and to help provide the Western standard of medical care to patients in India. As part of this collaboration, the Hinduja National hospital will also allow U.S. medical students and residents to do a month rotation through the hospital. AAPI and HNH also hope to work together to create a trauma center in Mumbai.
