NYC Networking Event a Success!

The American Association of Physicians of Indian origin Medical Student/Resident/Fellow section (AAPI-MSRF) launched its nationwide professional networking series with a successful event in New York City. On August 18th, 2007, a capacity crowd of 150 medical students, residents and fellows convened at the Indian restaurant, Ada, for the event. Although most attendees resided in the New York/New Jersey region, some traveled to the event from other states including Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Ohio, and even Kentucky. This event marks the beginning of AAPI-MSRF's ten city networking drive across the United States aimed at expanding its reach.
During the event, AAPI-MSRF's President Dr. Snehal Desai conducted a presentation about the mission of AAPI-MSRF and its future direction. Included in this presentation were academic/outreach initivaties, upcoming events this academic year, information about the national service project, and details on the annual conference. This year's service project is aimed at increasing the National Bone Marrow Registry among the South Asian community. SAMAR (South Asian Marrow Association of Recruiters) was also on site at the event and registered attendees who were not previously in the registry. Additional presentations included one from the AAPI National President Dr. Hemant Patel and an educational seminar sponsored by Janssen Pharmaceuticals.
AAPI-MSRF represents the collective interests of Indian medical students, residents and fellows nationwide. In the upcoming academic year, AAPI-MSRF hopes to expand their membership in order to optimally represent the 10,000 South Asians currently in medical training.
