AAPI 2005 National Convention in Houston

The 2005 AAPI Convention was lauded as a resounding success. Over 3000 people attended the convention in Houston including over 400 medical students, residents and fellows and other young physicians. The weekend started off with a kick-off dinner at a Cuban resturant followed by an after-party in downtown Houston. Friday was a full day with a luncheon with Howard Dean, Chairman of the Democratic National Committee. Abraham Varghese, a best-selling author of The Tennis Player and My Own Country spent about 2 hours with MSRF answering questions and giving advice to about humanity in medicine. Friday night was a latin themed night with live mariachis, great Mexican food and salsa-merengue dancing. Saturday was filled with seminars on community service, venture capital in medicine and internships in the US and India. The weekend was concluded with an elegant Indian-themed dinner at the Houston Museum of Natural Science with attendees dancing the latest of both American and Bollywood hits. All in all, it proved to a fun and informative weekend. We hope to see you in Atlanta in 2006!
