Executive Officers 2008 - 2009
Committee Chairs 2008 - 2009
| Community Service Chair |
Varsha Mendiratta
|

|
|
As a community service chair, my goals are
to educate the community about basic medical information that can be
life-saving. This year, we will organize many fairs around the nation,
screening for hypertension and diabetes, in an attempt to detect these
common diseases in an early state. I would also like to educate our
aging population about certain emergency medical services, such as what
to do when they witness a cardiac arrest, and signs and symptoms of
stroke and heart attack.

| Membership Chair |
Mitesh Rao |
 |
| As chair of the membership for the MSRF, I plan to work closely with our members through the Regional Representative Program in order to create a nationwide network of young AAPI members dedicated to encouraging other medical students, residents and fellows to join our organization. Increasing the national sections' involvement in local chapters is vital to our growth as an organization, and to our solidarity as a national network. Furthermore, encouraging interested individuals to take the initiative in starting new local chapters will be another key aspect of our move to improve our overall membership. We'll be doing everything we can to facilitate the reinforcement of existing relationships, and the creation of new ones. |
| Communications Chair |
Purvi Parikh
|
 |
| The Communications Chair serves to
act as a liason between AAPI/MSRF and the public/media. This person
serves as the representative voice for AAPI MSRF and is responsible for
making press releases for all events including national conferences,
regional events, and legislative day. Other responsibilities include
working with the remaining board members to increase membership and
awareness of parent AAPI events/activities. |
| Legislative Chair |
Navin Vij |
 |
| The Legislative
Chair is responsible for promoting legislative advocacy and involvement
in policymaking by the members of AAPI-MSRF. As the second largest
medical association in the country, AAPI occupies a unique and
important position through which to educate policymakers and shape
perspectives on Indian-American issues and health policy; the MSRF
especially provides some of the most energetic and passionate members
of AAPI who have been taking part in this advocacy process already and
will continue to do so in the future. The Legislative Chair works to
coordinate advocacy efforts of students and young physicians with
efforts conducted by the rest of the organization and will be working
on collaborative efforts with other Indian-American interest
organizations during advocacy events. The primary event organized by
the Legislative Chair is an advocacy day in the spring where AAPI-MSRF
members meet lawmakers on Capitol Hill and discuss issues of importance
to our community as future and young physicians and Indian-Americans.
In addition, this year will bring about the increase in activities and
materials meant to educate members about policy that affects them and
the essentials to getting involved in the legislative process. It is
the hope of the Legislative Chair that, beginning with our efforts in
Washington , DC as well as in our own states and communities, we will
continue to establish long-lasting relationships with policymakers that
will help to educate and shape laws that affect Indian-Americans and
young physicians into the future. |
| Convention Chairs |
Vacant |
|
| The Convention
Officers' mission is to provide an educational and entertaining
environment for both medical students and residents while highlighting
the charm of Orlando! By inviting the company of an eclectic group of
speakers ranging from accomplished physicians to pharmaceutical
representatives to share their own nuanced perspectives on various
aspects of medicine, the convention chairs hope to help future medical
professionals to become more conscious of changing trends in current
medical practice. The convention chairs helps promote and organize the
2009 Convention, providing an opportunity for hundreds of medical
students, residents, and fellows all over the country to meet, mingle
and relax while continuing to learn to become better stewards of health
for our respective communities. |
| IMG Liason |
Sima Mistry |
 |
| The IMG Liaison is
responsible for representing the interests of International Medical
Graduates and students within the AAPI-MSRF body. Since many of the
physicians and surgeons practicing in the US are IMGs, it is pertinent
that AAPI be aware of and active towards addressing the concerns and
issues facing its own IMG members. International AAPI chapters serve as
an important resource for medical students pursuing further medical
education and training in the United States. AAPI IMG links these
international chapters in order to facilitate exchange of information
about medical clerkships, the residency application process, and
licensure. By working with the MSRF board and AAPI parent body, I hope
to improve the resources available to IMG members in the pursuit of a
successful transition into the US medical system. |
| Website Commander |
Anupam Desai |
 |
| The webmaster is
responsible for updating and improving the AAPI-MSRF website. The
website is a resource for both AAPI members and non-members alike. It
promotes our activitives, is a platform for communication with our
members, and forum for the promotion of Indian culture. The website
embodies our dynamic, bright, and enthusiastic group of future
physicians that engage in clinical practice, community service,
cutting-edge research, and advocacy. This website keeps our community
informed and helps us reach new members. As web commander, my primary
mission is to build the site into a central hub where members can stay
in touch with goings-on at AAPI-MSRF. |
